Day 4 of my series of #100daysofaws — Read the introduction here

So today, I am going to set up a VPS or Virtual Private server on Amazon Lightsail.

Amazon Lightsail is a Virtual Private Server (VPS) service offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It is a simplified version of AWS that offers an easy-to-use, low-cost, and beginner-friendly way to launch and manage virtual servers in the cloud. It provides preconfigured templates, easy deployment of popular applications, and seamless integration with other AWS services. Amazon Lightsail is ideal for small to medium-sized businesses, developers, and students who want to get started quickly with cloud computing without the need for complex configuration or advanced technical expertise.

Blueprints

Blueprints are designed to simplify the process of launching a new instance by providing a pre-built configuration that includes the necessary software, settings, and services.

Blueprints are software images of OS or APPs+OS

Each blueprint includes a specific operating system, application stack, and server configuration, along with recommended settings for security, performance, and scalability.

Lightsail offers a wide variety of blueprints for different use cases, including popular CMS platforms like WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla, as well as web application frameworks like Ruby on Rails, Node.js, and Django.

Creating a new VPS

To create a new VPS you can follow these steps

1. Click the “Create instance” button in the top right corner of the dashboard.

2. Select a blueprint for your instance. As of now use WordPress from Bitnami.

3. Choose your instance plan.

4. Enter a unique name for your instance, and select the region where you want to launch it.
